Personal website
Raquel Serrano is currently a full-time lecturer at the University of Barcelona, where she obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics. Her research interests include foreign language acquisition and teaching, and bilingual education. More specifically, she has done research on the effect of time distribution on the acquisition of English as a foreign language, the effect of learning context (study abroad vs. "at home"), the role of explicit instruction in the acquisition of explicit / implicit knowledge, and two-way bilingual immersion programs in the US (the latter at the Center for Applied Linguistics, Washington, DC). As a member of the GRAL Research Group she has been involved in different research projects, the most recent ones being Long-term Effects of Age, Input and Aptitude in the Acquisition of English as a Foreign Language (coordinated by Carme Muñoz) and Study of Schools with Outstanding Results in English as a Foreign Language (coordinated by Elsa Tragant). From January 2011 until December 2013, she will be coordinating a project funded by the Spanish government (FFI2010-18006) and included within the GRAL Research Group that investigates the role of learning context and intensity of exposure in the acquisition of English as a foreign language.
